Mangroves: Guardians of Many Worlds

Featured during NYC Climate Week 2025

Mangroves: Guardians of Many Worlds was featured as part of the Between the Waves exhibition created by Project Eleven. The collective show was curated to“celebrate the beauty, biodiversity, and urgency of marine conservation through the lens of identity and environmental storytelling.” The projects featured strove to “honor the ocean that raised us—examine what we’ve lost and the future we must protect.” -Project Eleven

Note from Vaishali on Mangroves: Guardians of Many Worlds

I grew up around mangroves and marveled at their ability to live between land and sea, but it was only recently that I learned about the global presence and multilayered power of these trees. Carbon sinks, nurseries, providers of livelihoods and storm defenders, mangroves defy the false division between land and sea. Even if you haven’t been to a coast in a while or ever - humans depend on the sea. The mangroves remind us of our interconnectedness and our beautiful responsibilities.

Meet Vaishali

Profile picture of Vaishali Kiran Grover. Behind her is lush subtropical medium- green vibrant leaves.

Hi there! I’m Vaishali and here’s a little bit about me.

As you can guess, I love nature. I also enjoy searching for simple solutions that might not be obvious, but are impactful.  I believe in the connection between science and art; discovery and storytelling.

In my work, you will often find interactions among human, nonhuman critters and nature. Recognizing these connections and our own agency can help to create meaningful and lasting change. I also strive to be an advocate for inclusion of different modalities in many spaces. There’s power in perspective!

Fun fact: I grew up in part of both Caribbean and Indian diasporas, but my second language is Spanish. Which I learned to speak  through playground chisme.
